The Gin Mill, Arklow,Wicklow, Live Music Pub
The Gin Mill Pub, one of the oldest pubs in Arklow, county Wicklow, distinguishes itself from the other pubs in Arklow and the Wicklow county by the warm cosy atmosphere, live music and traditional character of a real family-owned traditional Irish Pub!
Originally founded in 1857, the Gin Mill Pub has over the years grown from a simple ' Irish Inn' to become one of the most popular Irish pubs in the Arklow area and the Wicklow county and is known for showcasing local and upcoming musical talent.
It was here at the Gin Mill that in 1979 'The Hype' - now better known as the worlds' biggest rockband, U2, fronted by Bono - had one of their first gigs before making it in to the international music scene and it has also been said that the song 'Streets of Arklow' by Van Morrison, a tribute to the town and people of Arklow, was inspired here.
Nowadays, the Gin Mill plays a central part in the Arklow region by offering the best live music gigs and party nights and acts as meeting point for many clubs and community groups in the Arklow area.
The Gin Mill 's upstairs bar and lounge can accomodate up to 120 people and is available free of charge for private parties and family get -togethers, whilst downstairs, Chef-in-Residence Jeremy, dishes out Irish stew, Curry and fires up a Barbeque during the summer months to the many patrons at NO COST...a treat hard to find these days..!
